Arvell Nelson Jr's 21 point performance keeps Glenville undefeated in the Senate

Cleveland, Ohio  - Tuesday night the Glenville Tarblooders looked to keep their Senate record unblemished. John F. Kennedy traveled to Glenville’s homecourt trying to extend their winning streak to three. Glenville’s size and Arvell Nelson’s 21 point performance proved to be too much for John F. Kennedy.

I got to speak with Head Coach for Glenville Bryon Ottrix about Nelson’s performance. He had some high praise for his sophomore guard.

“One thing about Arvell he’s always going to be aggressive, Arvell is super aggressive," said Ottrix.  "He got a good shot from the outside...He’s not scared of the moment.. He’s been playing well for us all season.”

Kennedy came out trying to slow the game down using their zone. Both teams started out slow but when Glenville settled in on defense they got going.

They found their rhythm from three, Arvell Nelson and Theo Castro knocked down a few during their 12-0 run. They ended the quarter up 19-9.

The Tarblooders carried their momentum into the second, London Dukes and Nelson were huge in the quarter. Glenville came out  with a 8-0 run. They led 27-9 with five minutes left.

The Tarblooders continued to be relentless defensively forcing turnovers and altering shots and the rim. Nelson ended the quarter with a buzzer beating three. Glenville led 43-28.

Both teams came out more urgent, Glenville started to bring havoc with their full court press and take control of the game.

Damarion Logan tried to turn the tide for JFK, he scored eight in the quarter. He hit his second three in the quarter with five minutes left, JFK trailed 53-41.

Glenville closed the quarter with a 9-0 with back to back threes from Dominic Scott and Sean Singleton. Glenville went into the fourth quarter up 67-46.

JFK fought hard until the end, they outscored Glenville 21-16 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to pull out on top. Glenville won the game 83-67.

Arvell Nelson led Glenville with 21 points, Damarion Witten had 12 points and over 4 blocks off the bench, Ruel Tomlinson added 10 points. Damarion Logan led all scorers with 28 points, Damairus Logan added 13.

Glenville will look to extend their win streak to four Friday January 19th at 7 PM at John Adams.
