Alliance, OH - The Alliance Aviators squared off with EBC foe Salem at the friendly confines of Harry Fails Gymnasium. Salem entered the night 1-1, while the Aviators came in 1-0. The game started with free throws following a team technical assessed to the Quakers.
Allliance got out to an early lead behind the work of Junior Guard JR Jackson, who tallied 6 in the opening frame. Salem was paced by 6'7" Senior Center Evan Jones who had 4 of the Quakers 10 in the opening quarter as the Aviators held an 18-10 advantage. The 2nd quarter was much of the same, with Alliance scoring 13 in quarter, with Jackson adding 5 in the quarter. Sophomore guard Ty Manion led Quaker scorers with 4, as the Aviators headed to the half holding a 31-21 advantage.
Salem had their best stretch of the night out of the gates in the 3rd quarter as they outscored the Aviators 9-2 in the first 5 minutes of the quarter. Coach Chet Harper relied on his bench to stop the bleeding and get the Aviators back on track. Taije Nicholson scored 5 in the frame, while the Quakers got 4 apiece from Jones and Deontay Steele.
The Aviators held a 41-34 advantage as the game entered its final 8 minutes. JR Jackson added 6 to his total after going scoreless in the 3rd, bringing his total to a game high of 17. Salem had 3 players score 5 in the final stanza, Manion, Steele and Cletis Monroy. Deontay Steele ended the night with the Quakers high mark at 13. The Aviators improve to 2-0, 1-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, while the Quakers fall to 1-2, 0-1 in the EBC.
