Brice Sensabaugh Earns BelieveLand's January Buckeye of the Month

2023 Ohio State University

Despite a terrible month where the team went 2-7, Brice Sensabaugh flourished into an outright superstar in Columbus. He led the team in scoring all nine games and averaged 20 points per game. He also led the Buckeyes in rebounds in six of their January contests. He earned Freshman of the week honors after his 27-point performance from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and has landed Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors twice in the month.

He is also cracking into the Buckeye record books after leading the Buckeyes in scoring for the 10th straight game, breaking Michael Redd's record of nine-straight back in 1997. Sensabaugh is third in average points per game as a freshman at Ohio State behind Redd (21.9) and D'Angelo Russell (19.3), averaging 17.7 points per game. With just 57 more points this season, he will also crack into the Top 10 for most points by a freshman in Buckeye history.

Sensabuagh has shot into stardom and now finds himself as the next one-and-done at Ohio State following Malaki Branham from last season. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can start to use his prolific abilities as a valuable piece in winning basketball games. February is a big test for the Scarlet and Gray. If they can win the month, they will be back in the hunt for the NCAA Tournament, but a few more losses, and the great season of Sensabaugh will be nothing more than a solo achievement.

Honorable Mention - Taylor Mikesell

Mikesell has continued to lead one of the nations best women's basketball teams. Despite three straight losses, she has continued to put up big game after big game. She may not lead the team in scoring every night, but her presence is a necessary one for the success the Buckeyes have found this season.
