Brunswick takes down Euclid 82-61 behind Morgan’s 24 pts

Euclid, Ohio- The Brunswick Blue Devils (11-2) came into their matchup looking to extend their win streak to three. The Euclid Panthers (3-10) searched for their first conference win this season on their home floor. 


Trey Drexler and Tommy Morgan were too much in Brunswick’s win tonight as they combined for over 40 points. 


I got to speak with head coach Joseph Mackey, he touched on both Tommy’s and Trey’s performances.


“Trey was really good, his floor game was good, he shot the ball well," said Mackey. "Obviously Tommy was special tonight, that’s the way we need him to play.”


Tommy Morgan scored 10 points for the Blue Devils in the first quarter. 


Brunswick got easy buckets early coming from their forced turnovers. They led 8-1 with five minutes to go in the quarter. Brunswick kept their foot on the gas ending the quarter up 22-8.


In the second, Euclid seemed to be finding a rhythm, as Ari Jones and Myckel Davis got buckets for the Panthers. 


Brunswick started to look for threes and stopped Euclid’s run. The Blue Devils got two threes in a row, one coming from Trey Drexler. Brunswick led 36-18 with five minutes to go. Brunswick went into the half up 43-27.



Myckel Davis was a spark for Euclid in the third quarter, he scored 10 points. Drexler was big in the third for Brunswick, he knocked down four threes.


Brunswick pushed the pace and looked for threes. Around the four minute mark Brunswick hit two threes in a row. The second one being from Drexler forcing a timeout with Brunswick leading 51-31.


Davis and Drexler came out of the timeout trading buckets. Davis converted and one at the basket which was answered by a Drexler three. Davis scored another bucket and Drexler hit another three. Brunswick went into the fourth up 65-44. 


Morgan came out in the fourth to put the game away. He scored seven points in the quarter including a three and a breakaway dunk at the six minute mark. 


Brunswick didn’t let up from that point and ended on top. Brunswick won 82-61.


Tommy Morgan led all scorers with 24 points, Drexler had 19 (5 threes) and Quinn Barnett finished with 14. 


Ari Jones led Euclid with 18, Myckel Davis finished with 14 and Anthony Moore ended with 13.


With this win tonight Brunswick improves to 12-2 (5-1 in conference play). Brunswick will travel on the road to play Cleveland Heights in another GCC matchup on January 26th at 7:30 PM.
