Canfield Captures District Title; Upends Glenville 64-51

Louisville, OH- They often say it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog. Saturday nights Division 2, Region 5 tilt proved it to be true. Despite a size advantage favoring the Tarblooders, the Cardinals were able to use their fundamentals and savvy to advance to the Regional Round of the OHSAA Tournament.

The Tarblooders opened the game strong, leading by a score of 17-13 after the first quarter. It was a 6 point lead before a Jake Delisio buzzer beater cut into the Tarblooders advantage. Leading Glenville after one quarter was Dominic Scott with 6 points on two triples.

Landon Shina led Canfield with 6 points of his own.

Canfield turned up the pressure in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Glenville 14-7. The foul trouble started to mount for the Tarblooders as Ruel Tomlinson picked up his 3rd foul soon after reentering the contest after coming out with 2 with just under 2:00 left in the opening quarter.

Out of the halftime break, the Cardinals used the 3 ball to keep the Tarblooders in their rearview mirror. Triples from Shina and Tony Russo helped build on their halftime advantage and extend the lead to 45-36 after 24 minutes of play.

Foul trouble and the now double digit deficit derailed the Tarblooders as the Cardinals coasted to a 64-51 victory.

The Cardinals will now move on to Canton where they will square off with Warrensville Heights next week.
