Captains Struggle Again, Dropping Second Straight to Lansing 4-1

Eastlake, OH - Trying to get back into the win column after losing on to Lansing on Tuesday and getting yesterday off due to the cold (doubleheader scheduled for Saturday) the Captains had Aaron Davenport on the mound (0-1, 1.35 ERA) looking for his first win of the season. His counterpart on the mound for the Lugnuts was Joey Estes (0-1, 7.00 ERA).


Davenport had a solid outing only giving up two hits. He walked Lansing second baseman Brett Harris in the top of the 2nd inning. Davenport balked sending Harris to second base. After that he had two wild pitches allowing Harris to take third and home. Davenport ended his night with four innings pitched, four strikeouts, two walks and one unearned run.

The Captains had a chance to put runs on he board in the bottom of the third inning, but left runners stranded, losing an opportunity to put the them ahead.

Joey Estes was pulled after five stellar innings for Lansing allowing no runs, 3 hits and striking out 6. Estes is a rising star for Lansing who are the affiliate of he Oakland Athletics

Right fielder Johnathon Rodriguez knocked in a run for the Captains in the bottom of the sixth inning, tying the game at one a piece.

Jaime-Arias Bautista relieved Davenport in the fifth inning for the Captains. In the top of the seventh, Bautista gave up a sacrifice fly to Lansing catcher Jared McDonald with two on. The next batter left fielder Brayan Buelvas took Bautista deep to left for a 2-run homer extending the Lugnuts lead to 4-1.

The Captains couldn't find any groove throughout the game losing for the second time in two games thus far against the Lansing Lugnuts.


Left fielder Korey Holland was 2/4 with two doubles for the Captains. Lansing second baseman Brett Harris paced the Lugnuts going 2/2 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.


This drops the Captains to 7-10 while Lasing improves to 6-11. They will try to get back on track tomorrow again against Lansing with a 6:35 pm start time. Star prospect Lenny Torres Jr. will be on the mound for Lake County.
