Eastlake, OH - The Captains took game one of the double header today after the walk off win last night to improve to 9-10 on the season.
The first inning was all the Captains needed to secure the victory over the Lansing Lugnuts. Young CF Petey Halpin reached first on a throwing error by Lansing's 3B Brett Harris. Next up was Jhonkensy Noel who had a huge part in the Captains win last night. He then bombed a 2-run home run (his 5th of the season) to left center. Next up was RF Johnathon Rodriguez who went back to back with Noel hitting a solo blast to left, giving the Captains a 3-0 lead.
That's all star prospect Gavin Williams (1-1,1.83 ERA) needed. He had an outstanding outing only giving up 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 5 in 6 innings of work. If Williams continues this level of dominance he won't be at Classic Park long and may be promoted to AA Akron sooner rather than later.
Cade Smith (0-0,1.35 ERA) came in to close out the game in the bottom of the 7th and struck out the side to put an exclamation point on the Captains win.
The second game the double header will see Doug Nikhazy (0-0 with a 4.50 ERA) start trying to get the Captains back to .500 on the season at 10-10.
