Cleveland Guardians catching prospect Andres Melendez tragically passed away on Thursday, December 16th. He was only 20 years old. The Guardians reported that he died suddenly and there has been no word on the cause of his death.
Melendez played the 2021 season with the Guardians Low A Affiliate Lynchburg Hillcats.
Melendez was acquired by the Guardians in November of 2019 from the Milwaukee Brewers for infielder Mark Mathias after beginning his career with the Brewers in 2018. He spent time with the Brewers Dominican Summer League and Arizona league teams before being traded to Cleveland.
