Crestwood Lady Red Devils pull away in 2nd half to top the scrappy Lady G-MEN 45-34

HIRAM, OH- On Saturday afternoon Hiram College hosted a Garfield G-MEN vs Crestwood Red Devils girls and boys doubleheader at Pryce Gymnasium. Up first was the varsity girls game at 3:00 PM as the Lady G-MEN were looking to bounce back from a loss to Labrae while the Lady Devils were looking for their fifth straight win. The Lady Devils would pull away in the second half for a 45-34 win.


It was a quick start for the Red Devils as Hannah Ward got things started with a three ball after a free throw split by Liv Martini.

Becca Brady then scored five straight to make it a 9-0 run to open the game. After a Riley Grace jumper for Garfield, back to back buckets by Piper Seibold and Ward put Crestwood up 13-2. Mandy Cardinal would score the final four points of the quarter for the G-MEN as they would trail 13-6 after one.


Cardinal would open the 2nd quarter with a three ball for Garfield cutting the deficit to 13-9. Crestwood responded with a pair of three's from Becca Brady and Ward to stretch the lead to 19-11.

Garfield would answer right back as Cardinal scored five straight points including her second three ball of the quarter to make it a two point game at 18-16.

After trailing 20-16 the G-MEN would score the final five points of the quarter as Kaelyn Tasker hit a jumper before the halftime buzzer to put Garfield up 21-20 at the break.

Hannah Ward and Becca Brady led the way in the 1st half for Crestwood with 8 points each. Mandy Cardinal was tops for Garfield with 14.



Mandy Cardinal would open the 2nd half scoring putting Garfield up 23-20. Crestwood would then go on a 12-2 run capped off by a Liv Martini steal and score. Ward and Brady accounted for 10 of those 12 points. That run put the Devils up 32-25.

They would take a 34-27 lead into the final quarter.


Garfield would get the deficit down to six after a free throw split from Tasker, who returned wearing a different jersey number and sporting a bandage around her head after taking a spill in the 3rd quarter resulting in a cut above her eye that leaked blood onto her jersey. That's as close as Garfield would get the rest of the way as Crestwood outscored them 9-4 the rest of the way for a 45-34 win.


Hannah Ward led the way for Crestwood with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Maddie Dustman also hit double figure with 10. Mandy Cardinal was stellar for Garfield dropping 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds.


The 12-4 Red Devils will host Cardinal on Wednesday as they look for six straight wins while Garfield will look to bounce back Monday at Champion.
