CVCA dominates University School 45-14 in 1st round playoff matchup

In a dominant performance that showcased both defensive tenacity and offensive firepower, the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals defeated University School 45-14 in a triumphant playoff victory. With four interceptions and a three headed rushing attack, CVCA controlled the game from start to finish, securing their second-ever Week 11 win in school history and advancing to a much-anticipated rematch against Chardon on their home turf.

Defensive Dominance: Four Interceptions Power CVCA to Victory

CVCA’s defense set the tone early, stifling University School’s passing game and creating critical turnovers. The Royals intercepted the ball four times, each takeaway a testament to their preparation and skill. Tommy Kopec kicked things off with a one-handed interception in the first quarter, a play that ignited the Royals and helped keep University School’s offense at bay.

In the closing minutes, Joey Kopec added an exclamation point to CVCA’s defensive efforts with a thrilling 37-yard pick-six. This interception, returned for a touchdown, capped the Royals’ scoring and put the game completely out of reach for University School, cementing the Royals’ dominance on both sides of the ball.

Offensive Firepower: CVCA’s Rushing Attack Hits Its Stride

Offensively, CVCA wasted no time establishing its rhythm, with the ground game leading the charge. The Royals’ rushing attack was relentless and varied, keeping University School’s defense off balance and producing consistent gains.

Quarterback Charley Levak directed the offense with poise and precision, adding to the scoreboard with a rushing touchdown of his own. Both Tommy and Joey Kopec also found the end zone on rushing plays, displaying CVCA’s versatility and depth in the run game. The Royals’ offensive line provided solid blocking, allowing their runners to exploit gaps and break off significant gains, resulting in a balanced and efficient offensive showing.

Looking Ahead: A Rematch with Chardon Awaits

With this commanding victory, CVCA moves forward in the playoffs to face Chardon in the third round. Last year’s playoff clash with Chardon ended in disappointment for the Royals, but this season, the rematch will take place at CVCA, offering a home-field advantage that could prove crucial.

As the Royals prepare for Chardon, they’ll look to build on their recent successes and bring the same intensity that led them to victory over University School. If CVCA’s defense can maintain its takeaway prowess and the offense continues its unmatched rushing attack, the Royals have every reason to believe they can compete with—and defeat—Chardon, advancing further than any CVCA team has before.
