Euclid's Girls Basketball 2023 Preview

Euclid, Ohio– Euclid’s Lady Panthers look to integrate several up and coming players from Junior Varsity. With another year at the helm as Head Coach, Anthony Wilson looks to turn things around from last season. The Lady Panthers finished the season 2-21.

I got a chance to talk with Coach Wilson about the challenge of integrating younger players. “The younger ones who are coming up of course don’t know some of the plays and some of the things that we did last year," said Wilson. "Catching them up to speed is a challenge sometimes…It’s exciting also because they have so much potential to grow.”

With so many key seniors being gone like Nadia Jarvis and Joy Byous, that leaves the chance for up and coming players to step into bigger roles. I got the chance to talk with senior Jayah McKinely about her transition adjusting to varsity level basketball.

When asked about it she simply said, “The pace of the game is faster…It’s been okay, nothing I can’t handle.”

Jayah is impressed with how well her group is clicking with each other so rapidly.

When asked what impressed her about the group she said, “The energy and the chemistry that’s coming real fast. We didn’t really have a summer league, our chemistry is coming together real quickly.”

Jayah looks to bring along her playmaking skills to table this season.

I also got the chance to speak with senior all GCC player Rosalyn Evans. She is excited for the opportunity to get things going in the right direction. When asked what she thinks is the key to turning things around this season, this is what she had to say.

“The biggest key is the attitude and mindset of where you want to be," said Evans. “I see in our scrimmage games I’m like yeah we got this, we started off on a good start we got this…I trust the whole team I know we got this.”

The Lady Panthers finished the season 2-21, ending their season in a loss versus Canton McKinely. With a group of young and upcoming new players Euclid looks to turn things around. They have a chance to make a huge statement and set the tone in the GCC. They open up on the road against The Cleveland Heights Tigers. I can’t wait to see what Euclid has in store.
