Field celebrates Homecoming with 35-10 win over Coventry

Brimfield, OH- It was homecoming night at Kenneth W. Lohr Stadium where the Field Falcons (2-4) welcomed in the Coventry Comets (1-6) for a Metro Athletic Conference showdown. Both were coming off of week 7 losses and looking to right the ship in Week 8.

Coventry received the ball and started at their own 22 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage the Comets had a 78 yard short pass that went for a touchdown called back due to a penalty. Three plays later they were forced to punt and their early momentum dissipated.

Field took over at the Comets 45 yard line after a short punt. 230 lb. running back Drexal McAmis started things off with a 17 yard run. After a personal foul penalty on the Comets, McAmis scored on a 14 yard touchdown run. Alec Grimm's PAT was good and Field jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

The Falcon defense held the Comets to a 3 and out forcing a second straight punt. It was then the Comets turn to make a big play on defense. They stopped McAmis a yard short on 4th and 7 forcing a turnover on downs.

Unfortunately for Coventry they fumbled on the very next play turning it right back over to the Falcons at the Comets 26 yard line. From there it was more McAmis as he ran it in from 24 yards out on the third play for another touchdown. Grimm's PAT was good making it 14-0 with 3:58 to play in the first quarter.

Another Comets 3 and out led to the biggest scoring play of the night. After a McAmis 1 yard gain, Brady McCoy took the handoff from their 25 yard line 75 yards to the house. Another Grimm PAT made it 21-0 with 1:14 to play in the opening quarter.

Coventry was able to pick up a first down on their next possession, but ultimately were once again forced to punt the ball away. Their defense was able to hold Field to a 34 yard FG attempt by Grimm that was missed wide left keeping the score at 21-0.

Field's defense continued the strong play forcing yet another 3 and out. Once again they would capitalize offensively. Drexal McAmis would score his third touchdown of the half, this one coming from 19 yards out after breaking multiple tackles. Another Grimm PAT made it 28-0 with 1:17 to play in the first half. That would be our halftime score. McAmis rushed for 104 yards and those 3 touchdowns.

The first 7 minutes of the 3rd quarter went scoreless until guess who, Drexal McAmis, scored his 4th touchdown of the game. The 5 yard score was setup by a nice Victor Brown 19 yard run. The PAT was good and the Falcon lead was out to 35-0.

That would end the scoring on the night for Field. Coventry finally got on the board with 9:44 left in the game when Comets QB Bryce White-Heldman found Alex Meinen for a 43 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good making the score 35-7. They would get a 34 yard FG from Mason Gaugler on their last possession making the final score 35-10.
