Field pulls away from Southeast in 2nd half of their 64-52 win behind Eader's big night

BRIMFIELD, OH- The Field Falcons came into Saturday night's matchup with Southeast after a brutal three games in four nights stretch to start the season. Both teams were looking to grab their first win on the new season. They would come away with a big 64-52 home win over Southeast.


It was a back and forth game early on with four ties in the first four minutes of the quarter. A Zach Keto make for the Pirates would tie it up a 10 a piece after the Falcons Grady Eader scored on back to back buckets to give Field their first lead at 10-8. That began a Southeast 8-2 run to close the quarter with a 16-12 lead. Keto scored 8 of the Pirates 16 first quarter points while Eader accounted for 10 of Field's 12.


Southeast kept things rolling to start the 2nd quarter as sophomore guard Cohen Richardson scored the first 5 points giving the Pirates their biggest lead of the night at 21-12. Field would answer back with 5 points of their own after two Eader free throws and a successful and-1 conversion by Falcons big man Ben Stayer to make it s 21-17 game with 4:20 to play in the half. A few minutes later the Falcons Landon Wilmoth would hit a big 3 to tie it up at 23-23 with just over two minutes to play.



After a Brayden Ronowski bucket gave Field a brief lead, the Pirates scored 6 of the final 9 points of the half to take a 29-28 lead into halftime. Richardson had a big first half for the Pirates with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Grady Eader also had 14 for the Falcons.



The 3rd quarter was the turning point for the Falcons as they opened it on a 8-0 run to take a 36-29 lead prompting Pirates coach Matthew Dillon to call a timeout. The teams would trade baskets the rest of the 3rd quarter as the Falcons led 47-39 heading into the final quarter. It was another big quarter for Grady Eader who scored 10 of his game high 24 points as the Falcons outscored the Pirates 19-10.

It was a rough start to the 4th quarter for Field as junior guard Trevor Dixon was assessed two straight technical fouls and was ejected from the game awarding four free throws and possession to Southeast. Richardson connected on 3 of 4 followed by a Zach Keto make and all of the sudden it was a 3 point game as Southeast had gained some momentum. Field was able to withstand the adversity and push it out to a 9 point lead at 53-44 after a Ben Stayer basket. Shortly after a Brayden Ronowski 3 ball gave Field their biggest lead of the night at 60-48. They would hold that 12 point giving them the 64-52 victory.


It was a stellar night for senior goard Grady Eader who scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds going 9/10 from the free throw stripe. Brayden Ronowski also hit double digits with 10 points.


Cohen Richardson was big in the loss for the Pirates dropping in 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Zach Keto chipped in with 18 points.


Field is back at it on Tuesday when they host Springfield while the Pirates travel to Garfield.
