Field takes down Streetsboro 7-3 in big MAC matchup to remain unbeaten

MOGADORE, OH- The Field Falcons hosted the Streetsboro Rockets on Monday evening in a big mid season MAC matchup. The Falcons came in unbeaten at 10-0 including an 11-3 win over Revere on Saturday night at Kent State. The Rockets were looking for their third straight win.

Lefty Kayden Smith (2-0) got the start for the Falcons opposed by the Rockets Jack Pincoe (1-1).

Scott Wilson got the Rockets started in the top of the 1st with a leadoff single. He advanced to second on a stolen base and then to third on a ground out. Wilson came around to score on a Smith wild pitch giving Streetsboro a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons were able to answer back in the bottom half. Grady Eader led off with a double. He advanced to third on a Caden Kolesar ground out. Kayden Smith then helped his own cause with an RBI single knotting the game at 1-1. Pincoe retired the last two batters to limit the damage.

Streetsboro came right back in the top half of the second. With two outs and Jack Batten on second courtesy of a walk and wild pitch, Matt Klimak doubled him home to put the Rockets back up by a run at 2-1.

That score remained until the Falcons broke it open with a 4 run bottom of the 3rd. Eader reached on an error, Kolesar singled and Smith walked to load the bases with no outs. Drexal McAmis then hit a sharp grounder that took a bad hop and could not be fielded cleanly at short scoring a run and keeping the bases loaded. Sam Confer grounded into a fielders choice scoring another run. Ethan Rinehart capped off the scoring with a 2-run single. Field had opened up a 5-2 lead after three.

They would add another run in the bottom of the 4th after a one out single by Eader and an RBI double by Kolesar extending the lead to 6-2.

Falcons reliever Deegan Yutzy, who came on to get the final out in the top of the 4th, pitched a 1-2-3 5th inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Field brought home their final run in the bottom of the 5th on a Gavin Clapp squeeze bunt that scored Carter Little, who had doubled to leadoff the inning, from third. They took a 7-2 lead into the top of the 7th.

A pair of walks and a sacrifice fly by Jack Pincoe brought home the Rockets final run in the 7th inning. The Falcons prevailed 7-3 to move to 11-0 (9-0 in the MAC) on the season.

Yutzy came on in relief for the Falcons to pitch the final 3-1/3 innings and did not allow a hit. Offensively the Falcons had three players with 2 hits each.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday at 5 PM in Streetsboro.
