From the opening tip, the Blue Streaks were energized as they played a fast paced up tempo style which led to a 47-30 halftime lead.

After intermission, the Blue Streaks continued to push the pace as they opened up a 31 point lead midway through the second half and went on to claim an 88-69 victory over the Pioneers.

After the game, John Caroll University Head Men's Basketball Coach, Pete Moran, said that the energy the Blue Streaks brought to the court was the story of the game.

“It's instrumental in a game like today,” said Coach Moran.

“Obviously, Marietta had to travel to Otterbein, go home, and then comeback today."

“I thought our guys were well rested. I guess that's the storyline, the energy that they brought.”

Pushing the pace for the Blue Streaks right away were, Mentor alum, Luke Chicone, and Mentor Lake Catholic alum Luke Frazier.

Both had 14 first half points for the Blue Streaks.

In the post-game interview, Chicone said the the Blue Streaks came into the contest with the right mindset.

“The main thing going into the first half, was just be aggressive, play our game, but also focus on the defensive end,” said Chicone.

“There a team that can really shoot the ball from the perimeter, so we were trying to limit their looks from outside and I think we did a good job of executing that and it led us to make the run later on in the second half as well.”

As the Blue Streaks focused on  limiting the Pioneers success from the outside, the Blue Streaks shot well from the perimeter.

As a team, the Blue Streaks were 33-64 from the field (51.6%) and 5-12 (41.7%) from behind the arc for the game.

For the contest, the Blue Streaks were led by Frazier who had 26 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot. In addition, Chicone added 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
