RAVENNA, OH- It was Saturday night basketball in Portage County at Ravenna high school as the Ravens welcomed in the 3-0 Garfield G-MEN. The G-MEN started their season off with wins over Cardinal, Berkshire and Southeast while the Ravens were coming off of their first win of the season over Springfield. After a close 1st half, Garfield would pull away in the 2nd half for a 52-36 road victory.
The G-MEN got off to a quick start scoring the first six points of the game after a pair of free throws by Aidan Hill. Curtis Ross got Ravenna on the board with their first bucket of the game. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the low scoring opening quarter and Garfield held a 14-9 lead after one.
Curtis Ross opened the 2nd quarter for Ravenna with an and-one opportunity, but was not able to convert the free throw leaving it a 14-11 G-MEN lead. After a Preston Gedeon score for Garfield, Nick Edic hit a corner three to put them up 19-11. Three more points on a Hill bucket and Brandyn Bugucki free throw split finished an 8-0 run that put them up double digits at 22-11.

Ravenna would get it down to four after seven straight points from senior Nigil Williams made it a 22-18 game.

The teams would each score on two more possessions and Garfield took a 26-22 lead into halftime. Nick Edic had 7 points to lead the G-MEN in the 1st half while Curtis Ross and Nigil Williams each had 10 points for the Ravens.
With 4:30 to play in the 3rd quarter Garfield held a 30-24 advantage after Curtis Ross made 2 of 4 free throw attempts. The G-MEN would then go on a 10-0 run started by a Gedeon free throw and three ball and capped off by a Collin McGranahan floater in the lane to take their biggest lead of the night at 40-24. Ross would score the final three points of the quarter making it 40-27 heading into the 4th. Garfield outscored Ravenna 14-5 thanks to the mid quarter scoring run.

Ross opened the fourth quarter with a bucket to cut the deficit to 11. Unfortunately for Ravenna that's as close as they would get the rest of the way. Gedeon would hit another three followed by an and-one conversion to put the G-MEN up 46-29. Ravenna would outscore Garfield 7-6 the rest of the quarter to give us the final score of 52-36.
Preston Gedeon led the way for the G-MEN with 20 points on the night. Brandyn Bogucki chipped in 10 points and Aidan Hill grabbed 12 rebounds.
Curtis Ross was tops for Ravenna with 17 points while Nigil Williams chipped in a double/double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Garfield looks to make it five straight to start the season when they travel to Liberty on Thursday while the Ravens will look to bounce back Tuesday at Streetsboro.
