Getting to Know: New Jersey Generals

As we prepare to begin coverage of the USFL, here's a deeper look into one of the teams that will be calling Tom Benson Stadium at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio home this spring. The New Jersey Generals are one of the Inaugural USFL 2.0 teams from the 2022 season. Last season, all games were played in Birmingham, Alabama despite each team having a locale associated with it. This season the league has grown to include multiple sites, with Canton housing the Pittsburgh Maulers and the Generals, who Believeland Media will be supplying coverage for throughout their seasons. Here's a look at how the Generals are made up, with coach and player names you may recognize from their stints in the NFL or College.

The Generals were a part of the 'old' USFL from the 1980's and were one of the first franchises announced ahead of last year's inaugural season.

The Generals are led by veteran football coach Mike Riley. Riley has led teams at both the NCAA and NFL levels, as well as stops in the CFL and XFL throughout his career. His NFL Head Coaching experience was 3 seasons leading the San Diego Chargers from 1999-2001. His stops through the NCAA include Oregon State from 1997-1998 and again from 2003-2014. Following his time with the Beavers, he led the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 2015-2017. He led the Generals last season to a 9-2 record and was awarded the USFL Coach of the Year Award.

Roster: RB Darius Victor

The Generals return 2022 Offensive Player of the Year in running back Darius Victor. The Towson product led the USFL in 2022 with 9 rushing touchdowns. He spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints in 2017 but never appeared in an NFL regular season game. Victor is a short (5'8") but packs a punch in his 209 pound frame. He is a leading candidate for 2023 Offensive Player of the Year.
