Girls Basketball Season Preview: Cardinal Huskies 2023-2024

Middlefield OH- The Cardinal Huskies haven't had a girls basketball team since the 2021-2022 school year when they were lead by Haley Domen (10.1 PPG) and Ronee Collins (8.6 PPG) in the scoring department as Lindsay Hissa (11.2 RPG) headlined the rebounding category. The three of them have since graduated and they now have a new head coach in Kim Domen who has been an assistant with the program since 2014. Along with that, she did get to coach the 9 freshman a year ago in middle school..so there's a basis to build on for this season. Their only returning player from that team is now senior Anna Layman (31 FG%).

Anna is the lone upperclassmen for the Huskies. With all that being said there's a good foundation to the restart this program and continue to grow and see success in the future. Coach Domen and the Huskies will kick their season off on Wednesday November 11th with a home game against the Harvey Red Raiders. Just a handful of weeks later on December 5th they will have their first Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division game as they travel to Kirtland to play face with the co-Conference champions Kirtland Hornets. Ending off their 5 game stretch of CVC games is a home contest with the other co-Conference champ, their rival, the Berkshire Badgers as the programs will have their first rendetion of the girls basketball Kinsman Cup. The game will be played on Tuesday December 19th. Two days later they will travel to Windham to play the Bombers. Cardinal opens up the 2024 year against the Hornets, just a month after their first meeting as they host Kirtland. Their final CVC matchup comes versus rival Berkshire as they travel just a few miles West on 87 to Burton on January 31st. The Huskies wrap up the year on February 12th as they host the Librae Vikings.

Post-practice I spoke with freshmen Ivy Kaminski, Natalie Soltis & Olivia Krebs. The final freshmen I interviewed were Adelyn Grant and Nova Young. Anna Layman was my last player interview, and I rounded it out with the Huskies head coach Kim Domen.
