Golden Flashes Wrap-Up Training Camp, Set Sights on UCF; Name Mike Alaimo Starting QB

Kent, OH- Head Coach Kenni Burns gave an update on the team as they conclude Fall Camp and set their sights on the regular season, which kicks off on August 31 at 7:00 pm as they head to Florida to face the Knights of UCF (Broadcast nationally on FS1).

Here are a few quotes and notes from Coach Burns' press conference:

I'm really excited about our season, it's right around the corner and as you go around campus you can feel the energy and buzz. The student body's back and they're excited about being back and it being football season.
We had our scrimmage last night (Friday, August 18) and really got to put a cap on it (fall camp) to see where we are as a football team, which was great. The kids worked extremely hard and we talked about wanting to be a tougher football team. That was our whole mindset going into fall camp. I believe that we are (a tough football team) and it started with handling the "3 C's" we talked about last press conference. Understanding the Challenge that it takes to be a champion as well as having the Control to control yourself and your opponent and then being able to stay Committed to the process, and they did that all through fall camp.
We're healthy right now, and no season-ending injuries suffered during camp which is good.

Notes

Some players that stood out in camp: RB Gavin Garcia, OT Jimto Obidegwu, Defensive line, namely CJ West & Stephen Daley... DB DJ Miller

Position Battles: Gavin Garcia solidified himself as the starter (at RB). X (Xavier Williams) and Ky (Thomas) will for sure get reps. 1A, B and C. Mike Alaimo is our starting QB, a transfer from Purdue. He had a great fall camp and he solidified himself as our starter. Tommy Ulatowski will be our backup as well.
