Guarding the Farm: Week 5

Lynchburg Hillcats (Low A)


The Hillcats sit at 17-15 through 32 games. They split the 6-game series at Down East this past week. They are 5th in the league with a .239 team average and 7th in runs scored with 160. They are also the only team without double digit homeruns (8). Their pitching ranks 5th in team ERA at 3.90 and 3rd in earned runs allowed with 117. The staff has also given up only 108 walks good for 2nd in the league.

Lake County Captains (High A)


The Captains (14-18) had a tough series this past week hosting the Great Lakes Loons. They dropped 4 of 6 winning the middle 2 games of the 6-game series. Offensively they dropped to last (12th) in the league with a .209 average and 11th in runs scored with 113 in 32 games. Pitching continues to be their strong point posting a 3.40 team ERA good for 3rd in the league. They are also second in earned runs allowed with 96. The pitching will take a bit of a hit as ace Gavin Williams is being promoted to AA Akron.

Akron Rubberducks (AA)


The Ducks sit at 18-15 thru 33 games. They are coming off a 4-2 series win over Erie. Offensively they are at the bottom of the league in batting average at .213 and HR's with 18. The pitching staff ranks 6th in team ERA at 3.96 and leads in strikeouts with 394 in 288.1 IP. As mentioned above that staff will get an even bigger boost when Gavin Williams makes his next start for Akron.

Columbus Clippers (AAA)


The Clippers are on fire at 24-12 on the season. They swept the 6-game series over St. Paul this past week averaging almost 7 runs per game. Offensively they rank 7th with a .251 team average and are 1st in runs scored with 216 in 36 games. They are also 2nd in the league in HR's with 51. Their pitching staff is 4th with a team ERA of 3.84.
