The St. John Herald traveled to Beachwood to take on the Bison on Friday night.

Last season, the two teams met on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Spire Institute in Geneva.

Fast forward about a year and the same two teams met on a rainy Friday night.

On Friday night, due to a torrential downpour throughout the game, St. John decided to focus on the ground game.

After a very close game in which St. John led 8-3 through three quarters, the Herald scored two touchdowns late in the fouth quarter to pull away and defeat the Bison, 22-3.

In obtaining the victory, the Herald were led by senior running backs Ryan Williams (97 yards and two touchdowns) and Will Anderson (88 yards and a touchdown).

Afterward, Williams spoke about the victory.

Williams noted that the environmental conditions were not conducive to the passing game, thus the game plan was modified to feature the running game.

It started pouring from the first quarter (on)," said Williams.
"We knew it was going to be a ground and pound style of game. A lot of fumbles a lot of loose balls. Just came down to the big boys up front in the trenches and who could hold on to the ball, moving it, and we ended up coming out on top."

Added senior Will Anderson,

"We watched them on film and we had a plan out and it worked tonight," said Anderson. "So we were real happy about that."

After the Bison took a 3-0 first quarter lead on a field goal by Tristan Brown, the Herald responded with a Williams touchdown run and a two point conversion late in the first quarter to take an 8-3 lead.

In getting the Herald on the scoreboard, Williams said he broke a few tackles and was able to dive in to the endzone for the touchdown.

In the post-game interview Herald Head Coach Bob Dlwgosh said that Williams ran the ball really well and that the Herald offensive line did a great job of opening up holes for Williams.

After both teams did not score in the second or third quarters, the Herald took a 16-3 lead late in the fourth quarter on another Williams touchdown run.

In the post-game interview, Williams described his second touchdown run.

"Will Anderson (had) a beautiful run right up the middle, got us down to the one," said Williams. "The big boys up front, that was all them. They just got a great push and I just put my head down and ran it in."

Just a few minutes later, the Herald made the final score 22-3 on Will Anderson's touchdown run.

The Herald next face Steubenville Central Catholic on September 13th, while the Bison will travel to Crestwood to take on the Red Devils, also on September 13th.
