Highland One Game Away From Perfect Regular Season, Beat Aurora 30-3



Aurora, OH- The 6-2 Aurora Greenmen took on the undefeated 8-0 Highland Hornets at home on Senior Night at Veterans Stadium in Aurora. Highland has been rolling all season behind QB Andrew Lurtz and RB Lukas Stiles as well as a stout defense lead by a strong defensive line and anchored by tough linebackers and secondary. The Greenmen's offense was lead by QB Matt Geier and RB Alex Tenorio. Geier coming into the game has completed 61 of 103 passes for 862 yards and has rushed for 558 yards. Aurora won the coin toss and deferred to Highland. The Hornets started at the 20 yard line, after a big 16 yard run the start the game, the drive stalled and Highland punted. On Aurora's first drive RB Enzo Catania fumbled on the second play and Highland dove on it on the 13 yard line. Highland's hard running RB Lukas Stiles ran it in from 6 yard line for the first score of the game. Highland led 7-0.

Aurora again on their very next drive fumbled on a big hit delivered to Aurora QB Matt Geier and the ball came loose, Highland again recovered. After some tough runs, The Hornets settled for a 27 yard field goad by K Jacob Dobkowski. 10-0 Highland, still in the first quarter. Aurora QB Matt Geier was taken out of the game. Senior backup QB Sam Retton came in and gave the offense some life. The first quarter ended with Aurora driving. K Dom Trivisonno finally put The Greenmen on the board with a 32 yard field goal, cutting into the lead 10-3. Highland RB Noah Robinson answered on the first play of the next drive with a 59 yard touchdown run. The Hornets extended the lead to 17-3. The defenses for both Highland and Aurora played tough in the second quarter. The Highland touchdown was the lone score early in the quarter and they went into halftime with Highland in the lead 17-3. Aurora received the kickoff to start the second half. Unfortunately for The Greenmen, they couldn't get anything going.

Highland just plowed the ball down the field on their first drive of the second half. A combination of runners where involved, led by Hornets RB Lukas Stiles who scored from 2 yards out for his second TD of the game. The extra point was no good as the snap was botched. Hornets were ahead 23-3.

Aurora was gifted 30 yards on two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on the same Highland player on their drive. Aurora's QB Sam Retton, on 3rd and 7, threw for the endzone and was intercepted by Highland WR/S Chase Crutchley. Highland again played their brand of tough running football and RB Lukas Stiles scored his third TD of the game on a 2 yard run, putting The Hornets up 30-3 with 6:31 left in the game. Aurora fought all game against a very tough Highland team. The back to back fumbles in the first quarter were costly as Highland was able to turn them into points on both occasions. Aurora was coming into this game already banged up and dealing with some injuries. Highland just proved to be too much. Aurora QB Sam Retton was called upon to replace Matt Geier after he went down early in the game and played well. Lukas Stiles was a man on a mission all game for Highland and they came away with the win and remain unbeaten on the year and improve to 9-0 while Aurora falls to 6-3. Players of the game Highland- RB/LB Lukas Stiles- 21 carries, 119 yards, 3 TD's Highland- The Entire Defense- 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions, only 3 points allowed. Aurora- Sam Retton- 1/3 passing, 7 yards, 12 carries 75 yards Highland coach Mike Gibbons spoke about his teams big win.
