Hornets swarm Huskies to remain tied atop the CVC with 3-1 win

Middlefield OH- The (8-7) Kirtland Hornets looked to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Berkshire Bagders as they faced the (8-8) Cardinal Huskies, who were looking to continue on with their 3 game winning streak.



Alexis Shaffer kicked off the evening with an ace for the Kirtland Hornets. Ali Puruczky picked up one of her 20+ kills early on to give Cardinal the lead, but Ellie Spencer answered back with one of her own. Nina Loncar picked up a kill as Kirtland found themselves atop the Huskies 12-6.



Kirtstiana Katic would add on, but Cardinal battled back. Puruczky spiked two more kills and Maddie Ehrhardt served an ace to cut into the Hornet lead at 17-14. Katic picked up another one, as the Hornets held a 22-18 lead Anne Mann called a timeout for Cardinal. Puruczky picked up three consecuctive kills, the last of the trio leading us to a tie as she went off the block.



Moments later she capped off the 11-6 Huskie run with a tip for the win 25-23.



With the 1-0 lead, Morgan Csontos got the Huskies off to a good start with her kill. Cardinal jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in set 2, but Loncar aided the Hornets back into it, eventually getting them a 15-14 lead. Kirtland made a hitting error that tied us up at 15. Ali Puruczky picked up her 14th kill of the night in set two.



She added another kill to her total and Maggie Grant followed up with a block to force a Hornet timeout as the Huskies led 20-18. Puruczky served an ace to give Cardinal a 3 point lead but Kirtland responded, forcing a Huskie timeout with Cardinal clinging to a 22-21 lead. Back to back aces from Bria Golem and a tip from Kirstiana Katic gave the Hornets a 25-23 set 2 win to even the match a 1-1.



Kirtland jumped the Huskies to start set 3, Nina Loncar's kill started it, as the Hornets found themselves with a 7-2 advantage. Puruczky and Erhardt picked up kills and Ali added on with an ace to force a Ricky Sanders timeout. Cardinal trailed 11-10. A big 10-1 run from Kirland had them set up for victory and Loncar capped it off with a well-placed kill en route' to a 25-13 win. Kirtland took a 2-1 match lead.



Kirtland took a lead in set 4, but Puruczky tied it with a kill. Off the back of the kill Cardinal took a 7-5 lead. Nina Loncar and Ellie Spencer followed with kills, followed up by a Bria Golem ace eventually forcing a Cardinal timeout as the Hornets leaped to a 18-13 lead. Before long, Loncar sealed the win with her 18th and final kill of the match.
