Middlefield Ohio-On Saturday morning the Pymatuning Valley Lakers (0-3) traveled to play the Cardinal Huskies (3-2)
Josh Soltis got the start for the Huskies on the hill in this late morning baseball game. Ty Vickery would lead it off by reaching 1st as Austin Jones committed an error in right. Jonathan Moschell singled on a line drive to right, and to load the bases Ryan Croston singled to left. Zane Neczeporenko got hit by a pitch from Soltis scoring Vickery and the Lakers took an early 1-0 lead. Sean Croston drew a walk and before the Huskies came to bat they were down 2-0. Moschell tried to score on a fly ball by Devin Sharpe to center but no but Logan Strever gunned him down from center. A double-play turned into a triple-play as Neczeporenko did not tag the bag at 2nd, so the Huskies get out of a jam by some lucky defense. Ryan Croston got the start for the Lakers, and quickly gets in trouble as he walks leadoff hitter Josh Soltis and the next batter Troy Domen as well. Jake Bean brings Soltis home on an RBI single. With Domen advancing to 3rd on Beans´ hit, Logan Strever grounds out, but Troy scores and ties the game up at 2. Carter Tucker brings Bean home on a ground out and Austin Jones grounds out to the shortstop Devin Sharpe ending the inning. Cardinal leads 3-2.
Luke Harvey singles to left, but Chase Vickery goes down on strikes quickly. Harvey stole 2nd and with a runner in scoring position Trevor Clute grounded out to Domen. Ty Vickery is struck out retiring the side. Matt Hissa is the first Huskie to bat, and goes down swinging but Trent Mooney is hit by a pitch and stole 2nd. Charlie Soltis pops out to the pitcher. With Josh Soltis at-bat Mooney steals 3rd but a bad throw allows him to score. Soltis draws a walk, but Troy Domen goes down on strikes ending the inning. Cardinal leads 4-2.
Moschell flies out to center. following that, Ryan Croston walks and would later steal 2nd. Neczeporenko looks at a 3rd strike go by, then Sean Croston grounds out sending us to the bottom of the 3rd. Jake Bean leads off with a groundout to Sharpe. Strever pops out to Ryan Croston for the second quick out. Carter Tucker comes through with his first base hit and Jones followed it up with a walk but no damage is done as Matt Hissa strikes out to end the frame.
Devin Sharpe started the inning off with a basehit to center but a nicely turned double play as Troy Domen fielded it, stepped on 2nd to erase the lead runner and threw a strike across the diamond to Bean at first to end the inning. Trent Mooney reaches on an error by Charlie Vickery. He would steal 2nd and advance to 3rd as Charlie Soltis grounds out. Josh Soltis smoked a double over the head of Sean Croston in center scoring Mooney from 3rd. Troy Domen popped out to short and Bean lined out to 2nd. The Huskies add a run as they led 5-2.
Carter Tucker comes in to pitch and shines immediately as he strikes the first 2 batters he faces. Moschell is able to draw a walk, but Ryan Croston flies out to the now left fielder Josh Soltis to end the top of the 5th. Logan Strever singled to left, but would quickly be doubled up as Tucker lined out to 1st. Jones was hit-by-pitch and stole 2nd, but was thrown out on his way to 3rd. Both teams going cold in the middle innings.
Neczeporenko singled to center, and is moved to scoring position when Sean Croston draws a walk. A wild pitch allows both runners to advance, and Sharpe brings home Neczeporenko on a sac-fly. A line drive single from Harvey drives in another run as Croston scores, and the Lakers are fighting back as they cut the lead down to 1. An error by Jones keeps the inning going, but thankfully for Cardinal Clute grounds out to Bean and Tucker ends the inning with a strikeout. Matt Hissa and Mooney both are hit by pitches, and Charlie Soltis´s bunt ends up allowing Hissa to be tagged out by the 3rd baseman. Josh Soltis is struck out, and after Troy Domen´s 8-pitch at-bat he draws a walk to loads the bases. Bean is walked, and Strever comes through with an RBI single followed up by a back-breaking RBI single by Carter Tucker as the Huskies put 3 runs on the board increasing the lead back up to 4. Jones ends the inning on a fly out. 8-4 Huskies as Bean comes in to close it out for the Huskies on the mound.
Moschell grounds out to Domen and there is quickly 1 out in the top of the 7th. Ryan Croston draws a walk and steals 2nd. With Neczeporenko up to bat, Bean is able to strike him out, and Sean Croston is the last hope for the Lakers also goes down swinging and the Huskies win 8-4.
Josh Soltis earned the win on the mound going 4 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 4. The Huskie offense was powered by Carter Tucker and Logan Strever both going 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Bean was 1-3 with 2 more RBIs as well.
Luke Harvey goes 2-3 with an RBI. Sharpe, Neczeporenko and Sean Croston all add RBIs to lead the Lakers
