Huskies offense erupts for 11 runs, complimented by Bean´s 7 K night in 11-1 win over Mustangs

Middelfield OH- The Grand Valley Mustangs (5-12) visited the Cardinal Huskies (8-7) in a CVC Matchup as both teams celebrated Senior Night.


Jake Bean toed the rubber for the Huskies, and did not disappoint as he quickly retired the Mustangs 1-2-3, including his first strikeout.



On the first pitch Josh Soltis saw he doubled to lead it off in the 1st. Following a groundout from Troy Domen, Jake Bean would collect his first hit and RBI of the night with a double down the left field line. Logan Strever and Carter Tucker were both retired to end the inning. 1-0 Cardinal after one.


Casey Turner lead off the 2nd with a double of his own, but wouldn´t do any damage as Bean records all 3 outs via strikeout, and a pair of groundballs back at him.



Jackson Puruczky doubled to right, but in an attempt to stretch into a triple, he is thrown out and tagged out at 3rd. Austin Jones and Trent Mooney both struck out by Payton Pilzga.


The Mustangs are able to plate a run a tie it up in the 3rd. A 1-out single from Aidan Baker, who would be called out on a fielders choice, allowing Pilzga to be safe at 1st. Matt Hissa committed an error, putting John Foss on 1st and Pilzga on 2nd. The 2nd error of the inning would strike off the hand of Bean allowing Pilzga to score. No further damage would be done. The Huskies would answer fast, plating 3 runners in the 3rd. Hunter Gresch singled to start, and would be pushed to 3rd on Domen´s 1-out single. Bean collects his 2nd RBI with a line drive single into center. After Strever struck out, Carter Tucker drove in a pair with a bloop single to right making the Huskies lead 4-1. Puruczky´s line drive would be caught at 2nd by Justin Hagan to end the inning.



A near immaculate inning for Bean, striking out the side on 10 pitches.



Back-to-back 3 run innings for Cardinal would blow it open. A leadoff single off the bat of Austin Jones had things rolling for the Huskies. Gresch reached on a catchers interference with 1-out. Moments after Soltis flied out, Domen picked up another hit and RBI with Jones scoring. Bean then followed with a 2-out, 2-run double to left. Strever would be the final out in the 4th.



Jake Bean struck out the first two Mustang batters before the defense at 3rd by Carter Tucker would end the top of the 5th. The Huskies plate 4 runs to end it in the 5th. The inning began with a walk to Tucker and a single from Puruczky. Jones would pick up an RBI with a single. Trent Mooney was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Cardinal. Gresch collected an RBI after being hit as well. A walk to Josh Soltis would score another Huskie run, before Troy Domen´s single into the left-center field gap walked it off. The Huskies win 11-1.



Jake Bean continued business as usual on the mouth earning the win. Bean went 5 innings, only allowing 2 hits with 7 strikeouts.

The Cardinal offense was dominant, scoring at least one run in 4 of the 5 innings. An offense led by Jake Bean, Troy Domen and Carter Tucker all with multi-RBI games. Four Huskies would have multi-hit games by Jake Bean, Troy Domen, Jackson Puruczky and Austin Jones.

The Mustangs offense scored one run, only picking up two hits from Austin Baker and Casey Turner. Payton Pilzga would score the only Mustang run.

Payton Pilzga takes the loss in this one, going 3 2/3 innings allowing 10 hits with 6 earned runs and 3 strikeouts. Austin Baker would go 1/3 of an inning of relief, giving up three hits, 4 runs with two walks and two HBP.
