Ingle’s Clutch Double Leads Lake County Captains to 3-2 Victory over West Michigan Whitecaps

Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Captains second baseman Nate Furman led off the inning with a line drive single to center field and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch.


After two Captains batters flied out, catcher Cooper Ingle came to the plate.


After three straight balls, the count was now 3-0.

However, instead of taking, Ingle had the green light and lined a double to right field which scored Furman and gave the Captains a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the 9th.

Captains pitcher Zach Jacobs retired all three West Michigan batters on seven pitches in the top of the ninth to get the victory.

After the contest Ingle talked about his double to give the Captains the victory. 



In particular, Ingle talked about his thoughts going into the at bat and his mindset while at the plate.

“(The mentality was) just being able to put the team in a position to win,” said Ingle.
“It's not about me, it's about us winning baseball games. That's what we're here for.”

Ingle noted that the scouting report on the pitcher he was facing helped a lot since he had a good idea on what to look for while at the plate. 


During the at bat, Ingle said he was process focused on the moment and that he was looking for a good pitch that he could drive.


In addition to driving in the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth, Ingle also drove in the Captains first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.


The Captains scored in the bottom of the first after center fielder Jonah Advincula walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  


With two out in the bottom of the first on a 2-2 count, Ingle hit a line drive to left field to drive in Advincula from second base.


The Captains scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on designated hitter Johnny Tichner's home run over the left field fence. Tichner's home run tied the game at 2-2.

For the game, the Captains were led offensively by Cooper Ingle and Johnny Tichner. 


Ingle was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, while Tichner was 1-3 with a home run and RBI.


On the mound, four Captains pitcher's pitched throughout the contest only allowing six hits and striking out nine Whitecaps batters.

The Captains next travel to Indiana to take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps in a six game series.
