Kenston Bombers 2023 Football Season Preview

Following a successful 12 Week season that saw the Bombers go 9-4, they have question marks. One of the few answers comes from 2024 RB Sean Patrick, who committed to Akron this offseason for football. Patrick is coming off an incredible season that saw him rush for over 1,500 yards and hit pay dirt 21 times on ground. Sean also had nearly 700 yards receiving with 8 touchdowns through the air to boot. The answers will come within the next week as the Bombers have their eyes locked on their season and home opener at Bomber Stadium against the Boardman Spartans. A quick trip down 306 takes them to West Geauga to face the Wolverines in Week 2. The Battle of Chagrin Falls renews as the Bombers play host to their cross-town rival, the Chagrin Falls Tigers. Then a quick stop at Villa-Angela-St. Joseph in Week 4 before returning home for some Thursday Night Football action against Lake Catholic. The first pair of WRC Conference games takes place on the road as the Bombers head to Chardon to try and top the Hilltoppers in Week 6. In Week 7 they visit the Wildcats of Mayfield before returning home as Riverside awaits them in Week 8. The final home game at Bomber Stadium comes in Week 9 as they host Willoughby South. The Eastlake North Rangers await the Bombers for the regular season finale.

I talked with Senior RB Sean Patrick about his Akron commitment, how he's able to build off last season moving forward into this season, along with his hopes for the season.

Incoming Junior Lucas Kaltenbach was next on the docket, filling the starting QB shoes left behind. I asked Lucas what it means to step into the QB1 role. I followed up by asking what he's taking from the past few seasons and how he's going to apply it to this season, my final question was asking for his outlook on the season.

Two-way LT/IDL Sean Doyle took a few moments to answer some questions. I asked what it's like playing both sides of the ball, along with that, I asked what this seasons gonna be like for him. Finally, Sean shared his personal goals and team goals for the season.

MLB Josh Hallen talked with me about how he's grown with the defense over the past few years. He mentioned learning from the linebackers before, I asked what the biggest lesson he learned was. Finally he shared his hopes and goals for the season.

2025 WR/S Charlie Thompson reflected on last season and how he's using lessons from last year to build on for this upcoming season. He shared his goals with me, and lastly shared what it's like playing both sides of the ball.

Finally, Head Coach Jeff Grubich took some time and shared his thoughts on learning from last years 10-7 Week 12 loss to Chardon. Coach Grubich shared the things he's liked from his team throughout minicamp, and what he's looking forward to Week 1 against the Boardman Spartans.
