Kenston's backfield leads Bombers in 49-14 win over Wolverines

Chesterland OH- On Friday evening the (1-0) Kenston Bombers took the field against host (0-1) West Geauga Wolverines. Kenston was coming fresh off a 50-13 win over the Boardman Spartans, as the Wolverines fell to the Chardon Hilltoppers 35-0.



Q1

Kenston would start with possession, and before you could blink a 5-yard touchdown run from Lucas Kaltenbach put the Bombers on top. The PAT going through Kenston would finish their opening drive up by 7. A muffed catch on the kickoff along with a false start would hand the ball back to the Bombers. A promising drive came to a rapid stop, a flurry of penalties had Kenston backed up with a 3rd & goal from the Wolverine yard. With the inability to convert on 3rd down, and a missed FG from Grady Kucharson would set West G up from their own 27-yard line. Another stellar Bomber defensive stand was capped off by a sack from Robbie Hatcher.



Following a Sean Patrick run, Lucas Kaltenbach would find Brandon Bell for a touchdown, running their lead up to 14 after a successful PAT. Kenston ended the first quarter up 14-0.



Q2

It didn't take long for the Kenston defense to put the ball back in the hands of their junior quarterback early in the 2nd quarter. Zya'r Scott topped off another brilliant defensive series with a sack. A 25-yard catch and run by Dylan Krupp sparked the Bomber offense, Kaltenbach would find Krupp again for a toe-tapping touchdown, the Bomber lead sitting at 21-0. Both teams would exchange punts. With the ball back, a three-score lead and 6 minutes on the clock, Sean Patrick would hit paydirt for the first time of the night. A 21-yard gain set Kenston up at the one-yard line. Patrick would do the rest on the next play, his touchdown made it 28-0.



Following a West G punt and fresh out of a timeout, Kenston would turn it over on downs with 2:19 left in the half. A phenominal Wolverine drive would end with Finn Keenan being swallowed up in the backfield by a swarm of Bombers to end the half with a 28-0 lead.



3Q

Finn Keenan would lead a Wolverine scoring drive to start the second half Dominic Paros with two big catches, including a fade in the back corner of the endzone for a touchdown.



Cohen Clark rushed for 12 on first down, but the Wolverine defense would come up with an interception on a 50/50 ball. Sal Calatona would pick off Kaltenbach to give West G the ball back.



Another punt led to another Bomber touchdown as Sean Patrick hit paydirt for the 2nd time of the night, putting Kenston up 35-7. West Geauga turned it over on downs at their own 47-yard line, setting the Bombers up with good field position.



Kaltenbach would find Tymir Cardona for a 28-yard gain, setting up Cohen Clark for a touchdown, waltzing into the endzone from 9 yards out. Kenston leading by 35 to end the 3rd. 42-7 Bombers.



4Q

West Geauga's opening position would force a punt that was blocked, eventually Sam Meeks would slide in for the scoop and score. A memorable night for Jilly Ragsdale, making her first career extra point to put the Bombers up 49-7. The Wolverines would cap off their rough night with a rushing touchdown from Nasir Levy. Kenston ended the night by running out the clock, closing the door on West Geauga to pick up their 2nd win of the season.
