Kent State Basketball Thanksgiving Tourney Recap

The Kent State Men's and Women's teams took part in some holiday tournament action over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Rob Senderoff's Men's team headed to Lethbridge, Alberta for the Western Slam and played three games in three nights in Canada.


Thursday: Win over Towson 65-54

The Flashes opened the tournament with a 65-54 victory over Towson. Leading the Flashes was Von'Cameron Davis with 18 points. Also scoring double figures for the Flashes were Morgan Safford and Anthony Morales with 11 apiece.


Friday: Loss to UC Irvine 51-39

Kent State only managed to score 39 points while shooting 22.6% from the field, 14.8% from downtown and 58.3% from the charity stripe. Leading scorers on the night were Delrecco Gillespie with 9 while Maquis Barnett and Jamal Sumlin added 7 apiece.


Saturday: Win over Kennesaw State 67-60

Senderoff's squad ended the 3-day event on a high note, defeating the Owls, who started the week with an upset of the Big Ten's Rutgers Knights 79-77. Once again, it was Von'Cameron Davis pacing the team with 16 points. Barnett, Stafford and Jalen Sullinger each contributed 13 in the winning effort.


Kent State (6-2) returns home when they welcome the Portland Pilots on Friday December 6.


While the Men's team headed to Canada, the Women's team made their way to San Juan Puerto Rico for the Clasico. It was a two-game set for Coach Starkey's squad, with them earning a split.


Thursday: Win over Brown 74-51

Kent earned the Thanksgiving afternoon victory over the Ivy Leagues Brown University on the back of reigning MAC Co-Player of the Week Mya Babbit's 16 points. Jenna Batsch added 13 while Tatiana Thomas and Dionna Gray each pitched in 12.


Friday: Loss to Colorado State 60-54

The Lady Flashes dropped their finale to the Mountain West's CSU Rams. They were led by Gray with 13 in the losing effort. Batsch chipped in 10 while Babbit added 8.


The Women's team (4-4) returns to action on December 5th when they travel to Niagra.
