Middlefield, Ohio - On Tuesday night the Cardinal Huskies played host to the Kirtland Hornets. Cardinal came in at 2-2 trying to get a win streak going. As for Kirtland, this was their first game of the season trying to start the season off strong.

To start the game off, Kirtland won the tip, but missed their first shot. A bit later, Jacob Bean was easily able to drive into the lane after a nice inbounds pass. Then on a few possessions later Tyler O’Brien made a 3-pointer on the right wing. Bean was able to run in transition, and scored a triple on the left wing giving Cardinal a six point lead. Dan Alfieri had a nice spin move in the paint for the Hornets and scored a layup. Nick Barisic got his own offensive rebound and layed it back in to cut Cardinal’s lead to one. To start the second half, Kirtland scored four points in a row after a layup and an inbounds steal leading to another layup. However, Bean scored a 3-pointer from way outside to regain the lead. Jack Green hit a nice side-stepping mid-range shot giving Kirtland the lead back.

Troy Domen had the play of the night, hitting his defender with a crossover that made him fall to the ground, then hitting a 3-pointer for Cardinal. Domen later blocked the ball out of bounds and Kirtland later turned the ball over. Domen played out of his mind in the third quarter hitting an and-one and sinking the free throw. The score was 50-46 Cardinal after three.

To start the final period Gall III hit a layup for Cardinal to give them the first points of the period. Gino Blasini was able to score an and-one giving Kirtland the lead.
