Medina, Ohio - The second game of the night was a Division 1 / Region 1 Regional semi-final matchup between the Archbishop Hoban Knights and the Midview Middies. The Middies were 21-4 coming in winners of three in a row. As for Hoban they were 17-9 winners of five in a row heading into this matchup.
To start the game, Midview’s 6'5" Mary Meng got a layup to fall, giving her team the first basket of the game. However, Rylee Bennett hit a 3-pointer for Hoban taking the lead.
Midview’s defense was superb in this quarter, blocking shots and getting steals. The score was 16-15 Midview after Hoban went on a small run to put the game within one possession.
To start the second quarter, Midview went on a quick run causing Hoban to call a timeout. Midview was starting to pull away going up by double digits at one point.
Meng’s shot blocking was key on this run, getting a lot of stops on defense because of her rim protection. Meng was also dominant on offense as well. The team kept feeding her in the post while the student section yelled, “you can’t guard her,” while she was scoring.
The score was 36-16 at halftime in favor of Midview. Olivia DiFranco had 22 for Midview at half.
To start the next period, Midview continued their hot streak scoring a quick five points within the first minute. DiFranco also went on her own hot streak as well looking even more dominant than the first half.
Meng was almost in double digits for blocks in the third, as she had nine at the end of the third quarter. The score was 58-31 Midview at the end of the third.
To start the fourth Midview went on another run and went up by thirty at one point. They took this one by a score of 70-45.
Olivia DiFranco had 34 points for Midview, while Hoban’s Emma Rasmussen had 10.
