Brunswick, Ohio - On Tuesday night the girl’s Midview Middies came to town to face off against the Brunswick Blue Devils. Both teams had the same record at 17-3 heading into this game.
Winning the tip was Brunswick and Journey Hildebrand scored immediately, but Midview scored right after. Both sides mainly based their offense inside the paint within the first few minutes of the quarter which worked out pretty well for both squads.
Midview’s Grace Seymour made a 3-pointer, the first triple of the game. Hildebrand made one right afterwards getting the points right back. The score at the end of the first was 13-13.
To start the second quarter, Lea Holmes took the lead for Brunswick with a nice layup inside. Midview’s 6'5" Mary Meng was dominating the paint on offense, using her size to easily score inside. Meng also got a block in the second quarter as well.
Midview kept the pressure up on the interior, never really taking shots outside of the paint. That strategy seemed to be working as they had the lead at the end of the half by a score of 27-20.
To start the second half Midview kept the aggression up, getting in passing lanes and scoring inside with ease. For a while Brunswick couldn’t buy a basket only scoring two points within the first six minutes of the third.
From an individual standpoint Hildebrand kept putting up shots but not a lot of them were falling as she was having a bit of a cold night. The score at the end of the third was 37-25, Midview.
To start the final quarter Brunswick hit a 3-pointer trying to inch closer to Midview and their double digit lead. However Midview continued to be aggressive and refused to let the Blue Devils back in this one. Midview took this one 47-31.
Mary Meng led the way with 22 points for Midview. Kennedi Neale was tops for the Blue Devils with 11 points.
