Palmyra, OH- The Southeast Pirates hosted undefeated Mogadore on Friday night looking to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the season. Both teams were itching to hit the field after their week 7 games were cancelled.
Southeast got off to a quick start as Case Myers took the opening kickoff 75 yards to the house. The PAT was no good making it a 6-0 Pirates lead.
Mogadore wasted no time responding as Corey Lehner ripped off a 70 yard touchdown run on their first play from scrimmage. The PAT was converted and not even a minute into the game it was 7-6 Wildcats.
From there on out it would be all Mogadore. After forcing a Southeast punt, on the 2nd play from scrimmage the Wildcats do it all star Mason Williams took a handoff 55 yards rumbling thru Pirates defenders and into the end zone. Another successful PAT made it a 14-6 Mogadore lead.
On the Pirates next possession QB Randy Williams was picked of by Mogadore's Nick Coffman at the Southeast 43 yard line. The Wildcats found pay dirt on the 4th play as Conner Lehner took it into the end zone from 5 yards out. The PAT was converted putting the Wildcats up 21-6.
After the Pirates defense held Mogadore to a 3 and out, a Wildcat punt pinned Southeast inside their own 5 yard line. After the Pirates failed to get the first down, they attempted a fake punt from their own 8 yard line that ended with an incomplete pass turning the ball over on downs to the Wildcats. That setup a easy 4 yard touchdown plunge by Mason Williams and another converted PAT making it a 28-6 game with 2:16 left in the 1st quarter.
The 1st quarter clock ran out during the next Southeast possession that left them facing a 4th and 7. QB Randy Williams opened the 2nd quarter with an interception by the Wildcats Corey Lehner. An ensuing 7 play drive by the Wildcats ended with a Adam Debenedictis 3 yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good making it a 34-6 Mogadore lead with 7:44 to play in the half.
Another Pirate turnover gave the ball back to Mogadore at their own 20 yard line. From there they went on a 11 play - 80 yard clock eating drive. It ended with Mogadore QB Zeke Cameron finding Nick Stephenson in the end zone for a 2 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good extending the Wildcats lead to 41-6 heading into halftime.
Mogadore opened the 3rd quarter with their final scoring drive of the night. 9 straight rushing plays ended with a 5 yard touchdown run by Aaron Rumschlag. The PAT was no good and the Wildcats went up 47-6 with 5:40 to play in the quarter. That would end up being the final margin as neither team was able to score the rest of the way as they emptied their benches.
The win moves Mogadore to 7-0 on the season as they head to Aquinas next Friday. Southeast (4-3) will look to bounce back next week on the road at Rootstown.
