Mogadore withstands late Crestwood rally for a big 43-37 win

MOGADORE, OH- On Saturday afternoon a pair of 15 win teams did battle in Mogadore as the Wildcats hosted the Crestwood Red Devils. Crestwood came into this one red hot winners of nine straight while the Wildcats were winners of ten of their last eleven games. Mogadore was able to hold off a late Crestwood rally to pull out a 43-37 win.


Crestwood jumped out to a 6-2 lead after a Hannah Ward bucket inside prompting a timeout by Mogadore.

They would maintain the lead most of the 1st quarter before Mogadore scored the final 6 points on baskets by Julie Tompkins, Amelia Morris and Ari Tompkins to take a 12-10 lead after one.

Maddie Dustman started quarter two with a tough score inside to tie it up at 12-12.

A few moments later with Crestwood leading 16-14, Julie Tompkins gave the Wildcats some momentum with a three ball to put them up 17-16.

Ari Tompkins would then go on a personal 9-2 run to close the half giving Mogadore a 26-18 lead at the break.

Ari Tompkins led all scorers at the half with 13 points. Hannah Ward topped the Red Devils with 10 points.




Ari Tompkins picked up right where she left off in quarter two hitting a three top open the 2nd half giving the Wildcats a 29-18 lead.

Crestwood would only manage three free throws in the 3rd quarter as Mogadore outscored them 9-3 to take a 35-21 lead after three.


Ari Tompkins would start off the scoring in the final frame giving the Wildcats a 16 point lead at 37-21. Crestwood then began to chip away at the deficit. Hannah Ward splashed a three to start the Red Devils run. They would go on an 11-0 run capped off by a Liv Martini layup and Maddie Dustman and-one conversion to cut the Mogadore lead to 37-32.

Kasey Bolyard would then get a big rebound and put back to push the lead back out to 39-32.

An Abby Guyette bucket and Dustman free throw split cut it to four at 39-35 with just under two and a half minutes to play. Unfortunately for the Red Devils time was not on their side as they fell to the Wildcats 43-37.


Ari Tompkins led all scorers with 18 points for Mogadore. Kasey Bolyard chipped in 10 points while Amelia Morris grabbed 12 rebounds. Hannah Ward led the Red Devils with 15 points.


Mogadore will look to keep things rolling Monday at Lake Center Christian while Crestwood looks to bounce back Wednesday vs Wickliffe.
