Mount Union Shuts Out Marietta 28-0; Plunk and Ruby Set Career Marks

Marietta, OH- The Purple Raiders began conference play along the Ohio River as they visited the Pioneers of Marietta College. Following their week 1 victory in Defiance and following their week 2 bye, the Raiders looked to start the OAC season 1-0.

Three Quick Hits for the Week 3 Victory

1. Braxton Plunk and Wayne Ruby Set Mount Union Career Records

Entering their 5th year as Purple Raiders, Braxton Plunk and Wayne Ruby see themselves near the top of a lot of career numbers lists. This week, Plunk (20-30 for 286 yards and 4 TDs) broke the career passing completions record, moving in front of Bill Borchert's 946. Ruby (10 catches, 173 yards 2 TDs) broke the career receiving yards mark, surpassing Cecil Short III's 4,705. This will likely be a common theme as this season rolls along.

2. 'Moore' of the Same

Junior Linebacker Rossy Moore set personal bests in tackles for loss (6) and sacks (4) as the defense shut down the Pioneer offense from the jump. Coming off a Sophomore year that saw him rake in personal accolades, Moore looks to continue to collect hardware as a premiere linebacker in the Division III ranks. His 6 tackles for loss tied the school record for a single game.

3. There's No Place Like Home

As the collegiate season enters week 4 next weekend, the Purple Raiders finally return to Keheres Stadium for their home opener. Mount welcomes Muskingum University to town in a game scheduled for 1:30 pm on September 23.
