Kent, OH- In 1984, Bruce Springsteen taught us that 'you can't start a fire without a spark'. Looking to start a fire and burn the nations longest losing streak to the ground, Kent State Head Coach turned to True Freshman Ruel Tomlinson at Quarterback. Tomlinson, who a calendar year ago was in the midst of leading the Glenville Tarblooders to their 2nd consecutive OHSAA Division IV State Title took the reigns from Junior Tommy Ulatowski after Ulatowski took over following the loss of Devin Kargman and JD Sherrod, who both were lost for the season when they suffered injuries earlier this season at Penn State. Also among the wounded quarterbacks in the Flashes stable is Dru DeShields, who has been out since summer camp.

Tomlinson completed his first pass to Senior WR Luke Floriea for a gain of 5 but the opening drive would stall from there. The following two Kent State offensive drives would follow suit with 3 and outs.
Ohio University got the scoring started on a 42 yard field goal off the foot of Sophomore Kicker Gianni with 8:30 left in the opening quarter. On the Bobcats next possession it was Anthony Tyus III scampering in from 19 yards out for the Ohio touchdown to put the Bobcats ahead 10-0, which would be the score after the first 15 minutes of play.
The scoring in the 2nd quarter got underway off the foot of Spetic, this time from 36 yards out. With 3:07 left before half, it was Bobcat QB Parker Navarro keeping it on an option play from 3 yards out to extend the lead to 20-0.
Coming out of the half, Ohio University received the kickoff and it was Grad Student Eamonn Dennis returning the kick 96 yards to get extend the Ohio University lead to 27-0. That wouldn't be the only return for a touchdown for the Bobcats, as later in the frame it was Grad Student Coleman Owen taking a Josh Smith punt to the house from 61 yards out.
In the early moments of the 4th quarter, with the 2nd string offense in for Tim Albin, it was Redshirt Junior Nick Poulos finding fellow Redshirt Junior TE Bryce Butler from 7 yards out to put the Bobcats ahead 41-0.
On the night, the Flashes mustered only 114 yards on 52 plays. Tomlinson ended the night 8-18 for 62 yards and 1 interception. The leading rusher for the Flashes was Ky Thomas was 15 rushes for 50 yards. The lone bright spot for the Golden Flashes was Josh Baka, who tallied a career high 18 tackles to lead the defense.
The loss brings the Golden Flashes (0-9) consecutive loss steak to 18. They return to action in Oxford as they take on the Miami Redhawks next Wednesday night. The Flashes return home on Tuesday November 19th when they welcome rival Akron for the Battle for the Wagon Wheel.
