Elyria, Ohio - On Thursday night Osborne Academy came to Elyria to face off against Open Door Christian Academy. For Open Door they came into this matchup 1-2 looking to get to .500 with a win. As for Osborne Academy they were 0-4 heading into this game looking for that first win.
Andrews Osborne won the tip, but missed their first shot of the night. Rafa Jurado got a steal, making Open Door’s first possession a turnover. Elijah Petrosian, the captain for Andrews Osborn, hit a nice floater to help them get the lead. Aaron Pattee hit a triple from way outside, as the defense didn’t seem to respect his outside shot. RJ Penney later gets an easy transition layup, giving Open Door a 9-2 lead.
On the other end, Andrews Osborne was called for a traveling violation, causing more problems for their struggling offense. Caleb Brooks hit a pullup jumper 3-pointer, putting Open Door up by 9. A player for Andrews Osborne slips and loses the ball, resulting in an easy two points in transition for Open Door who took a 15-6 lead after one quarter.
With a few minutes passed in the second, Anthony Januzzi intercepted an Andrews Osborne pass, but failed to convert on the other end after the ball was swatted. The second quarter was kind of poor for both sides. The halftime score ended up at 23-16 in favor of Open Door.
To start the 3rd, Teo Sanz Maristany hits a nice hook shot to get the first points of the second half. Later Petrosian gets in transition and lays the ball in nicely to cut the lead to six. In what was one of the best plays of the game, Julius Moon makes a no-look pass into the paint for an Open Door layup. Moon later hits a triple on the right wing as no one came up to guard him after half court putting Open Door up 10.
Daniel Marinov was hit with a nice full-court pass to give himself a nice layup, with no one contesting him. Petrosian got his defender in the air with a pump fake in the right corner, drove into the lane and hit an and-one, also hitting the free throw. Open Door led 35-31 after three.
Petrosian hits a 3-pointer on the right wing, cutting the lead to only one to start the 4th for Andrews Academy. Teo Sanz Maristany hits another 3-pointer for Andrews Academy at the same spot his teammate did giving Osborne a two point lead. Moon hits his own triple on the left wing for the Patriots taking the lead back. Januzzi gets an amazing steal and easy layup, giving Open Door the lead again after Andrews Osborne made a layup. At this point, both teams kept trading baskets.
RJ Penney hit a nice 3-pointer to cut Andrews Osborne’s lead to just one. After a layup by Andrews Osborne with thirty seconds left, things were looking a little bleak for Open Door. However, an offensive rebound leading to a made floater really helped Open Door’s chances. A costly turnover by Andrews Osborne with twelve seconds left made the home student section erupt. Then Julius Moon received the ball in the left corner and hit a triple for the 52-50 win for Open Door!
