Padua tops Bay Village 40-32 in Game 1 of Cleveland Basketball Classic

Berea, OH- Baldwin Wallace University hosted the first annual Cleveland Basketball Classic, a two-day event to showcase some of the top local men’s and women’s high school programs. The first game to kick off the weekend was between the Padua Franciscan Bruins and the Bay Village Rockets. While majority of the area had their eyes glued to an important game between Ohio State and Michigan, Ursprung Gymnasium drew a rather surprising sized crowd to witness this battle.

In the first quarter, it was all Padua. The Bruins capitalized on the many missed opportunities around the rim by the Rockets to close out the quarter leading 11-6.

Bay Village took the second quarter by storm with improvements on defense and less missed shots. Sophomore guard Quinn Oleary knocked down a buzzer beater 3 at the half to help the Rockets outscore the Bruins 7-6 and cut their deficit to 17-13. Michela Cario led both squads with 9 points.

The second half spoke a different tune. While Padua continued to build on their first half lead, Bay Village would be denied a chance at a comeback with 3 different players scoring 6 or more. Padua came out on top 40-32.

Ruthie Bisson led Bay Village with 8 points. Cario finished the game with 18 points for Padua.
