Madison, Ohio - On Thursday afternoon the Perry Pirates came to town to face the Madison Blue Streaks. Madison was 3-4 coming into this game trying to get their record to .500 with a win. As for Perry their record was 6-2 and they were looking for their 5th straight win.
Winning the tip was Madison and they missed their first shot. Zoey Delingalis hit a layup to get the first points for Madison but Perry went on the other end and hit a 3-pointer. Allyssa Snider blocked a Perry shot inside, causing the ball to go out of bounds.
Perry went on a 10-0 run after another made 3-pointer causing a timeout call by Madison. After that Madison came back with a run of their own to take the lead at the end of the first. 14-13.
To start the second quarter, Audrey Austin hit a 3-pointer for Perry to take the lead back. The scoring went on a bit of a drought in this period, and Perry finally scored a layup to get back on track. Madison’s Sophia Makad hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at eighteen a piece later in the quarter. Perry held a 19-18 lead going into the half.
To start the second half Perry’s Kaitlyn Newsome hit a 3-pointer on the right wing after a nice pass from Rosalyn Tharp. After that Makad hit her own 3-pointer for a quick 6-0 run for Perry. Both teams went on scoring runs with not a lot of defense played in this quarter. To end the third quarter Perry held a 37-30 lead.
To start the final period Madison went on a small run helped by a fastbreak and-one by Chloe Haase. Madison closed to within one early in the fourth quarter. With about four minutes left, Izzy McKoon hit an and-one for Perry and that put them up by five.
Both teams kept scoring, and Tharp hit the final shot to pretty much seal the game for the Pirates. The final score was 54-47 in favor of Perry. Leading the scoring for Perry was Izzy McKoon with 18 points.
