Rocky River, Ohio - The final of four games on Tuesday was John Hay High School vs Rocky River. For John Hay their record was 1-7 coming into this game while Rocky River was 5-0.
With the first basket of the game was Christian Camargo, with a 3-pointer on the right wing. Julian Patti hit his own 3-pointer later on in the quarter, tying the game up. The defense in the first quarter was immaculate as not a lot of scoring on either end really occurred.
Censier Williams made his own triple for Rocky River to give them the lead. Will DeClerck hit a layup to end the first quarter and the score was as Rocky River had a 15-9 lead.
To start the second period, Patti went to the free throw line and nailed both free throws. Rocky River went on a huge 9-0 run in the second quarter until Donta Dadget hit a mid-range shot to finally score for John Hay.
The main facet of Rocky River’s offense was paint scoring, and also transition scoring. Patti hit an and-one but missed his free throw. The score at the end of the half was 33-21 in favor of Rocky River. DeClerck led the Pirates with 11 points.
To start the third Gavin O’Brien hit a 3-pointer for Rocky River. The Pirates went on another big 11-0 run to start a quarter. Rocky River’s head coach Mike Murray got a technical foul but DeAnthony Moore missed both free throws for John Hay.
Dadget finally scored for John Hay with about five minutes passed in the quarter. DeClerck dunked the ball after a full court heave from an inbounds pass. The score after the three was 55-25 Rocky River.
To start the final quarter, Rocky River took a charge and got the ball back. Jaden Charney hit a 3-pointer for the Pirates, and Simon Baum also hit one shortly after. Rocky River cruised to a 69-30 victory to wrap up Day 1. DeClerck led the way with 15 points, while Patti chipped in 13.
