Rubberducks even the series with New Hampshire after an 8-3 win

AKRON, OH- It's was a beautiful Friday night for baseball at Canal Park for Military Appreciation Night. With school out for the summer there were many families and ball teams in attendance tonight hoping to see a Rubberducks victory and some postgame fireworks.

 

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Kahlil Watson got the Ducks on the board with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Milan Tolentino from 3rd to give Akron the 1-0 lead. Petey Halpin, who was on 1st during the sac fly, moved to 3rd on an Aaron Bracho single to right. Bracho stole 2nd and on the throw down Halpin stole home for his 4th steal on the season. The inning ends with Akron up 2-0. 



The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Toronto Blue Jays double A team, strike right back in the top of the 4th to grab the lead from the Ducks 3-2. It was a long inning for Ducks starting pitcher Aaron Davenport, but he battled through it to remain in the game.


In a seesaw battle on the scoreboard, the Ducks retook the lead 4-3 on a Tolentino single scoring Yordys Valdes and a sac fly from Joe Naranjo in the bottom of the 4th. The Fisher Cats stranded some Ducks on the pond to escape without any further damage.

 



We move to the bottom of the 8th inning where Kahlil Watson led off getting hit by a pitch that kept him bent over for a minute at the plate. Watson stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a throwing error by the New Hampshire catcher. A Bracho single scored Watson for a 5-3 lead.



Kody Huff doubled to right to put Ducks on 2nd and 3rd. Dayan Frias then tripled over the left fielder's head to plate 2 more to increase the lead to 7-3.



Joe Lampe's sac fly scored Frias for a 4 run inning making it 8-3 Akron.


Bradley Hanner shut the door for the night in the 9th on New Hampshire to end the game and preserve the 8-3 win. Great win by the Ducks!


Davenport picked up win #4 on the season battling through 5 innings allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 4. Milan Tolentino and Aaron Bracho both had 2 hits a piece while Dayan Frias drove in a pair.


W - Davenport - Akron 4-1, 1.87 ERA

L- Harrison - New Hampshire 1-3, 5.28 ERA
