Shaker Heights Laurel Gators outlast the Garfield Lady G-Men in a 53-41 Regional semi-final victory

Cuyahoga Falls, OH - On Wednesday night at Cuyahoga Falls High School the Garfield Lady G-Men took on the Shaker Heights Laurel Gators in a Division 3 / Region 9 Regional semi-final matchup.

Right out of the gate the Lady Gators were going all in jumping to a quick 7-2 as senior Saniyah Hall was able to put together two quick jump shots along with a free throw. The team put up a total of 16 in the first.

The Lady G-Men started out slow, but were able to fight back because of back-to-back three pointers from Laura McCoy and Maggie Fogel as they tied the game 11. The Lady Gators took control for the rest of the quarter ending it leading 16-11.

Starting the second quarter Shaker Heights got off to a quick start as Hall racked in six points of her own and teammate Mari Bickley was also able to put up four as they rallied together to score 11 points in the second.

Garfield showed more fight. Even though they were down 11 points, the Lady G-Men rallied together to go on a 10-0 scoring run led by McCoy and Mandy Cardinal. The team was able to put up 14 points in the second and cut the Lady Gators lead to two points going into halftime 27-25.

The Lady G-Men coming into the second half were looking to take the lead but unfortunately they weren't able to do so only scoring four points. On the bright side they played pretty good defense until the final minute.

On the other side of the ball, the Lady Gators' defense was impeccable, but offensively they were lacking only scoring seven points in the quarter until Tristan Williams was able to score back-to-back buckets in the final minute extending their lead to 38-29.

Unfortunately for the Lady G-Men the final quarter didn't go their way only scoring 12 points and defensively they weren't able to stop the juggernaut that is Laurel.

The Lady Gators on both offense and defense in this quarter played lights out as they were able to score 15 points on the backs of Williams, Hall and Bickley, which helped propel their team to a Regional semi-final victory 53-41.

The MVP of the game for Laurel was Mari Bickely scoring 18 points.
