Solon blasts Canton McKinley 61-40 in Division 1 Regional semi-final

Medina, Ohio - On Tuesday the Canton McKinley Lady Pups were facing off against the Solon Comets in a Division 1 / Region 1 Regional semi-final matchup. Both teams were 22-4 heading into this game. McKinley was on a twelve game winning streak while Solon had won eight in a row.

Securing the first points of the game was Sophia Lance, with a 3-pointer that hit the backboard and went in. Soon after, Solon picked off an inbounds pass and MacKenzie Blackford converted a layup.

McKinley couldn’t buy a basket for a while, but finally scored a layup late into the first. However, the Lady Pups got to the free throw line a good amount at the end of the quarter. The score at the end of the first was 15-5 Solon.

To start the second, McKinley’s Mya Taylor hit a step back 3-pointer but Blackford hit her own as well for Solon. Blackford also hit a euro step for the Comets.

Sadly for McKinley Solon caught fire from beyond the arc and the Comets finished the half up 32-12.

To start off the second half, Blackford broke 1,000 points for her career with a layup, which was immediately celebrated by Solon. Solon’s offense was a bit lackluster, compared to their offense in the first half. However, their lead did not diminish.

To end the third quarter, the Comets led 47-18 with the game looking like it was all but over at this point.

To start off the final quarter, Morgan Blackford picked off a pass, and scored a layup in transition. Both sides slowed down their offense, trying to take time off of the clock.

The Solon Comets took this one 61-40. MacKenzie Blackford had 23 points for Solon while Mya Taylor had 15 for McKinley.

Solon will move on to face the winner of Midview and Akron Hoban on Saturday at Medina.
