Southeast Pirates move to 4-0 after a 30-6 win over Akron North

Palmyra, OH- The Southeast Pirates were back on their home turf on Friday night after the installation of the new track was completed. The Pirates (3-0) were looking to remain undefeated on the season as they welcomed in the Akron North Vikings (1-2).

North received the opening kickoff and began the opening drive at their 35 yard line. After a holding penalty moved them back 10 yards right off the bat, they were able to covert a first down on a Sigmund Fielding 9 yard run on third down. The Pirates defense then held firm forcing a punt on 4th and 10.

Southeast went to work on their first drive. Just like their opponent, the Pirates also started in the hole with a 15 yard penalty on the first play. But runs of 13 and 14 by Case Myers and Antonio Mejia respectively quickly erased the negative yardage and picked up the first down. The Pirates continued to churn out yards on the ground taking the six minute plus drive 76 yards in 12 plays capped off by a Myers 3 yard touchdown run. Myers also converted the 2 point conversion giving the Pirates an 8-0 lead with 1:24 to play 1st quarter.

The Vikings again stalled on their next possession. They went for it on 4th and 9 from the Pirates 49 yard line, but Fielding's pass came up short and they turned it over on downs.

Southeast took advantage. They gained 15 yards on three Vikings offside penalties in four plays. From there it was Austin Mejia who had runs of 22 yards and 2 yards, the last of which went for the Pirates second score. The 2 point attempt was no good making the score 14-0 Southeast with 5:52 to play in the half.

After a North 3 and out, Southeast scored on a 5 play drive dominated by Antonio Mejia who rushed for 35 yards on four carries including a 2 yard touchdown run to finish it off. Dylan Donell converted the 2 point try giving the Pirates a 22-0 lead with just over 2:00 to play in the half.

The first half ended on an interception of a Fielding pass by Pirates defensive back Zach Keto. The Pirates maintained their 22-0 lead into the half.

Southeast only needed one play to open the scoring in quarter three as Antonio Mejia busted through the line and took it 57 yards to the house for the first score of the second half. Case Myers converted the 2 point conversion giving Southeast a commanding 30-0 lead and started the running clock.

That would be it for scoring in the second half for the Pirates.

Akron North would finally break through in the fourth quarter as speedy 5'5" running back Elijah "Smurf" Gervins sprinted into the end zone from 15 yards out for the touchdown. The 2 point conversion attempt was no good. The Pirates lead now stood at 30-6.

That ended up being the final margin as Southeast moved to 4-0 on the season dropping the Vikings to 1-3. The Pirates will be back home next Friday as they welcome in Minerva.
