St. Joseph girls knock off Highland 52-35 in Game 5 of the Cleveland Basketball Classic

Berea, OH- Medina Highland and Saint Joseph concluded the fifth and final game on day one of the Cleveland Basketball Classic at Baldwin Wallace University Saturday evening.

From the opening tipoff, Saint Joseph looked like the more ready team. Their defense made Medina Highland rush into bad shots as well as bad passes that turned into easy transition buckets. Medina Highland didn’t see their first bucket until 18 seconds left in the first quarter when sophomore guard Bianca Pallante drove the lane for wide open layup. Highland found themselves down 15-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter is where the Hornets started to pick up steam and play with some urgency. Sophomore guard Kennedy Morgan knocked down a much needed three-point shot to give the team some hope and bring them within 8 before the Jaguars finished on a 4-0 run to take a 28-16 halftime lead.

The second half showed pure dominance by Saint Joseph although Medina tried to put together a last second run to enter the fourth with the duo of Grace Shondel and Kennedy Morgan combining for 14 out of the teams 19 second half points.

In the end it was too much of Morgan Wearsch and Madison Roth from Saint Joesph who combined for a total of 27 points to lead the Jaguars to a 52-35 win over the

Hornets. Wearsch had a team high 20 points for the Jaguars and Morgan had 13 points for the Hornets.
