STREETSBORO, OH- The Streetsboro Rockets were shooting for another Metro Athletic Conference Title on Tuesday night when they welcomed in the Field Falcons. A win over Field would clinch the 2nd consecutive outright title for the Rockets, while a win by the Falcons would keep them in the hunt. The Rockets would pull away late clinching the title with a 49-32 win.
Field would get in the scorebook first after a Abby Harlin bucket and Maddie Jacobs free throw split put them up 3-0. Naomi Benson would get the Rockets on the board with back to back baskets putting them up 4-3.
The Rockets would extend the lead to 9-5 a few moments later after a Carlee Bedford three ball. At the other end the Falcons Ally Harlin would score inside on a put back with a foul.
The free throw attempt was unsuccessful and after a Raegan Hendon basket the Rockets would lead 11-7 after one.
Streetsboro would score the first seven points of quarter two after a Sydney Abbuhl bucket and two makes from Ava Bodovetz with a Benson free throw sandwiched in between.
They led 18-7 before Delilah Rahe ended the 7-0 run with a bucket making it 18-9 which end up the halftime score after a pair of missed Falcon free throw attempts. It was a low scoring 2nd quarter that saw some solid defense displayed by the Rockets. Benson led Streetsboro with 5 points and Rahe had 4 points at the half for the Falcons.
The Rockets would push their lead to double figures to start the 3rd after Benson and Olivia Johnson-Wilson baskets made it a 22-11 game. Abby Harlin would then score five straight after a pair of free throws and an and-one conversion to cut the deficit to six at 22-16. After a Carlee Bedford score, McKayla Miller would bury a three cutting the deficit to 24-19.
Following baskets by Bedford and Ally Harlin, the Rockets would score six straight to push the lead back to double figures at 32-21.
Delilah Rahe would score at the other end for the Falcons before Carlee Bedford ended the 3rd quarter with an and-one conversion to push the Rockets lead to 35-23 after three.
The Falcons were not ready to concede this one as they opened the 4th scoring six of the first eight points following a Delilah Rahe and-one conversion to cut the Rockets lead to 37-29 with 5:19 to play.
The two teams exchanged baskets before Streetsboro went on a 10-1 run to close out the 49-32 victory clinching the Metro Athletic Conference Title.
Naomi Benson led the way for the Rockets with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 steals. Carlee Bedford chipped in with 14 points. Delilah Rahe was tops for Field with 11 point and 8 rebounds.
Streetsboro (16-3) will host Cloverleaf on Thursday while the Falcons (12-8) will host Ravenna.
