Terriers fall to Big Red 55-24

Hiram OH- The Hiram Terriers hosted the Denison Big Red on Saturday afternoon.


Sean Tejeda and Hiram began with possession first, after a one yard gain from Gabriel Hoskins the Terriers were forced to punt. Jimmy Stines orchestrated an opening drive touchdown for the Big Red. Trey Fabrocini carried a number of times throughout the drive and capping it off with his 7-yard trip to paydirt.


Following Daniel Cunningham's extra-point, Denison led 7-0. Jayden Jennings took the first snap at QB for the next Terrier drive. He handed of off to TE Jordan Townsend for a gain of 4. Tejeda checked back in and found Raequan Davis-Hereford on a pickup of 9. Tejeda dropped back on the next play, finding Jairus Green who juggled it for a moment before securing the catch and racing all the way down to the 10-yard line of Denison on a big gainer of 47 yards.


On 4th down from the Big Red 11, Chris Miller was called upon for a 24-yard field goal, that he drilled.



With Denison leading 7-3, Josh Stines got back to work. He hooked up with Josh Aiello for a pair of catches as Fabrocini picked up 13 yard to end the first quarter. Denison would have it from the Terrier 12 to start the 2nd frame.


He picked up 10 on his next carry, before making a reservation for 6 as he scored from two yards out to make it 14-3.


On the first pass of the next Hiram drive Tejeda was looking for Davis-Hereford who forced a DPI to move the ball to their own 41 yard line. Tejeda's next pass was intercepted by Jack Nimeshiem at the Denison 35, which is where they'd begin on offense. Fabrocini ripped off a huge 42-yard run, to bring the ball just outside Hiram territory. A few plays later Stines found Jon Adamson in the flat for a 10-yard touchdown completion.


Hiram's next possession ended in a punt, that only made it to their own 31, giving Denison the ball well into Terrier territory. It didn't take long as Josh Aiello leaped in the back of the end zone for the touchdown, with that the Denison lead had jumped to 28-3. Another Terrier punt set up another Big Red scoring drive. On 3rd & 24 from their own 31, Josh Stines found Billy Guzzo for a 39-yard gain.



Shortly thereafter Stines found Adamson again for a 20 yard touchdown score. The Terrier's were forced to punt again, leading to another touchdown for Denison. Stines hit Aiello in the left corner of the endzone for a toe-tapping score, sending us into halftime as Hiram trails 41-3.

Coming out of halftime with possession, Josh Stines was picked off by Dylan Baliker, who took it down to the Big Red 21.



Unable to score, Hiram turned it over on downs but DE Jalen Glass stripped Stines, and it was recovered by Baliker at the Denison 14.



Hiram pulled out some trickery, as Tejeda took the snap and handed to Hoskins, who tossed it on a reverse to Jordan Townsend who scampered all the way to the end zone for the Terrier touchdown. Chris Miller's extra-point was good, making it 41-10 Denison.



The Terrier defense held strong, forcing a punt, but Hiram was flagged for a roughing the punter penalty, continuing the Denison drive. Vincent Cognetta would be the feature back on the drive, helping work his team down into the Hiram red zone. Josh Stines threw his 5th and final touchdown pass to Aidan Brownlee, making it 48-10.



Hiram and Sean Tejeda would use all 2:40 left on the clock in the 3rd quarter to score. A big play to Raequan Davis-Hereford that brought the Terrier offense all the way to the 23 yard line of Denison. Tejeda tossed to him for a first down option play that gained 12 yards. After a defensive pass interference, Hiram was set up with 1st & GOAL from the 2. Anthony Brumbaugh took the handoff up the gut and into the end zone for the score, beating the buzzer as the Terrier trailed 48-17.



Waterhouse and Vincent Cognetta aided Zane Olmstead as they both split carries working the Denison offense into Hiram territory. With 3rd&5 from the Terrier 5, Olmstead rolled to his right to find Brownlee for his 2nd receiving touchdown of the afternoon.



Now down 55-17, Tejeda orchestrated a final scoring drive for Hiram. He connected with Trystan Mollohan for a gain of 41 yards, setting up Egya Quasion-Sackey for the touchdown.



Denison would run out the clock to end this one, the Big Red knocking off the Hiram Terriers 55-24.
