The Canfield Lady Cardinals fall to the Northwest Lady Indians 51-29 in Division 2 Regional Final

Barberton, OH - On Friday night at Barberton High School, the Canfield Lady Cardinals square off against the Northwest Lady Indians in the Division 2 / Region 5 Regional Championship game.

On Tuesday Northwest got past CVCA while Canfield topped Marlington to force this matchup.

In the first quarter the Lady Cardinals did not look their best as they were only able to put up three points, all coming from Carlie Harmon. Defensively they weren't able to contain Northwest.

The Lady Indians looked great in the first, putting up 11 points as Ashley Cudnik and Gianna Kuhn were each able to put three points on the board and the whole team played phenomenal defense ending the quarter up 11-3.

The second quarter for the Lady Cardinals started out hot as Camie Dill hit back-to-back three pointers. The excitement for Canfield ended there as they weren't able to score anymore points and they still couldn't stop Northwest's offense.

Northwest looked great in the second just as they did in the first, as they were able to score nine points, four of which came from Lily Bottomley and they were able to extend their lead to 20-9 at the half.

Coming out of the locker rooms, Northwest came out firing as Bottomley was able to score on three straight possessions and they ended up scoring 17 total in the third. They also continued to play phenomenal defense.

The third quarter was the same for Canfield as the first half was, as they were only able to score four points throughout the first six minutes of the quarter. They were able to make a small run at the end scoring an extra eight to make the game closer, however the defense still had no answer for the juggernaut that is Northwest's offense as the game was getting out of hand 37-21 after three.

Starting the fourth, the Lady Cardinals were going to need a huge comeback to overcome the large deficit, but unfortunately for them they weren't able to make anything happen. Even though their offense picked it up at the the beginning of the quarter, it slowed right back down as they only scored eight points in the final quarter and they just couldn't stop the Lady Indians from scoring.

Northwest didn't look as good on defense this quarter, but it ultimately didn't matter as their offense continued to click and they were able to score 14 points. Six of those came from Lily Bottomley and they were able to advance to the final four in division two beating Canfield 51-29.

The MVP of the game was Lil Bottomley who scored 16 points and was a beast on the boards.
