Middlefield, OH - On Friday night the Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves traveled to Cardinal High School to take on the Huskies.
To start the first quarter the Red Wolves came out firing with junior guard Braylan McClardy who was able to put up six points and teammate forward Kaelib Graaf who was able to knock down five points of his own propelling their team to 13 points and a strong lead.
Unfortunately for Cardinal things didn't go so well for them in the first quarter as Tyler O'Brien was able to put up a three pointer, but that was all of the Huskies points for the quarter as the Huskies they trailed 13-3 after one.
In the second quarter the Red Wolves put up another great defensive fight, while also putting up nine points off the back off McClardy's four points and a three pointer by Nate Biggers.
The Huskies were able to put up 10 points in the second quarter, mainly because of Troy Domen's five points, but it wasn't enough to really close the gap as the deficit stayed at nine points as the Red Wolves took a 22-13 lead into the half.
Coming out of halftime the Red Wolves looked even better, as they were maintaining their lead while all of their shots were falling.
The Huskies struggled this quarter as none of their shots were falling and they couldn't seem to stop the Red Wolves offense. There was still a whole quarter of basketball to play and time for them to get it together.
Coming into the final quarter the Red Wolves were still doing whatever they wanted with the Huskies on offense, as Kaelib Graaf was able to put up six points this quarter and McClardy knocked down a three.
Cardinal entered this final quarter trying to make a comeback, but unfortunately for them they couldn't get past the Red Wolves defense and their own defense couldn't stop the high flying offense of Cuyahoga Heights as the Red Wolves prevailed 48-29.
The MVP of the game was Braylan McClardy as he scored 13 points and was the overall shot caller for his team along with having the biggest impact on the game.
I spoke with McClardy and head coach Mike Tartara after the game.
