Windham, Ohio - In the first of two games at Windham High School on Marty Hill Night, the Windham Bombers girls team took on the Lordstown Red Devils. Lordstown was 0-2 coming into the game looking to start a spark for their season. As for Windham they were 2-5 going into the game and were looking for their second consecutive win.
The tip was won by Windham. They missed their first shot, but made up for it with a steal and a mid-range shot by Briah Daniel. Daniel stole the ball, but was blocked by Aina Gasa on the chasedown.
Windham’s Mariah Woods got a steal, and then was fouled on a layup on the other end. Daniel got a great feed inside on an inbounds pass, and easily laid it in for two points. Woods got a great steal in the opponent’s backcourt, and got an and-one layup to fall. At the end of the first Windham had the lead 12-0.
In the second quarter, Windham got another steal, and Daniel got a nice pass for an easy layup inside. Daniel was on fire, getting another layup in the paint to fall. Sarah Barker got a great offensive rebound for a put back layup.
Woods also got an offensive rebound for a put back a bit later. Daniel got a step-back 3-pointer to fall to cushion their lead even more. Aina Gasa scored for Lordstown, their first points of the game. At the end of the first half the score was 29-2 in favor of the Bombers.
To start the third quarter Lordstown’s Marley Grant fell down clutching her ankle. Woods got a nice pass inside from Daniel and laid it in. Right after Woods got the ball in transition after a steal and got another layup.
Navawna King hit Lordstown’s second shot, another mid-range shot. Daniel stole the ball again, and laid it in for an easy two points. The score was 42-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Lordstown hit one of two free throws in the final period, adding one more point to their final score. Windham didn’t score at all in the final quarter but it didn’t matter as they won 42-5.
